A couple of things to throw out there.

Had a refreshing vacation and there was a few days that post and comments didn't get published. Sorry

We are reserving the right to edit for content etc. We have received some comments that had very valid points but because of name calling or also including information that was blatantly false or hostile we chose not to post. In the future if we think the comment is important we will edit and let you know that that we did, we will not change the overall post just remove name calling and hostility.

It looks like people are now understanding how important having the right information is, I know of some people that in just the last year have made it the habit of reading minutes and getting accurate information before they make a decision or unknowingly help spread false information around.

But now comes the hard part, who has ideas or answers, we still seem to be stuck in the finger pointing stage but besides learning and voting we will have to do more. We would love to see your comments on what we can do to turn things around.

How can we lower the tax rate?

How can we improve our school and educate our kids and prepare them for the world? (And remember just throwing money at it doesn't work)
How can we bring business to town?

How can we build more single family homes?

So let’s take a break from finger pointing, It looks like people are aware of who the trouble makers are. And let’s explore some answers.

What do you think?

I think we need more business and Industry, more jobs a better tax base. But it seems we will need some changes on the Planning board. Can a town our size and with the budget we have afford to have a town hall employee who's only job would be to aggressively seek out business's to bring here? I think so.
We are all to blame for the mess we are in now. low voter turn out, Voters who don't research who or what they vote for, And a general attitude "I don't need to pay attention, we have people in power and on boards to do that for me".
Well look where that got us!
Until more people get involved, learn, vote and work hard for change things will continue to spiral down hill.

We need to clean out the planning board,Get some members willing to take care of the town and not their friends or themselves. Keep our eye on the Budget committee, although without last years chairman in place I would imagine they will actually do their job this year.
We need to look into how our HDC operates or if we really need one to begin with.
I'm not a huge select board fan but they are not doing so bad, I will admit they have made some errors that I don't understand but over all I give them a passing grade. No one can please everyone.
We do need to be more pro-active on policies and such, If we don't like the way they are now, we the voters can change that.

You are so correct on the pro active statement "we the people" need to be more involved and not just sit back and let other people decide for us. Many, many people are UN-happy with our planning board and the direction its going, so what are you going to do about it? Read minutes, learn and vote some people out and some new people in, WOW, its that easy. And yes we must be more involved with policies. Why cant the minutes be posted farther back?
We need a new policy on how the property that is taken by the town due to back taxes is sold, once it is taken it is "our" property (taxpayers, residents etc.)we deserve and must demand the maximum price in return.
These are just some examples and thoughts

Whats yours?

how about a board of just regular citizens collecting ideas and data from the towns people, working on getting more towns people involved and informed, and then reporting their findings to the other town boards. I say this because sometimes it just doesn't seem like our boards have a understanding on what the towns people actually want or need, they seem unattached to us and have lost all sense of reality for what we really want and need.
Case in point, We want our Dunkin Donuts, what to hell was the planning board thinking?

I Love the thought about a board of just people, young old male, female. Its a novel thought. I agree our boards seem to be out of touch with us ordinary people.
Maybe they need a reminder of their purpose and who they serve.
Get a report about our towns people and get a report card from our towns people.

The board of citizens sounds good but without any power or teeth it would be useless. Can you just imagine, the board come up with some great ideas and suggestions and presents them to hear "we will take it under advisement" and who knows if anything would ever become of them.
We do love the idea though, it would just need to have the power to make action happen.
