For years now we have been reading stories printed by the Keene Sentinel portraying Winchester, its residents and students in a negative light. Now we all know our town is not perfect but do we really deserve the treatment the sentinel is giving us? Now take a look at the letters to the editor that the Sentinel chooses to publish. We have seen many letters from the same people putting our town, government, people and boards down without using any facts and the Sentinel will publish them. We have seen certain people pat themselves on the back, misrepresent the truth and make incorrect statements and sometimes outright lies and the Sentinel will publish them. But when people try to get a letter published that challenges the statements made by these people or gives facts to the contrary the Sentinel chooses to not publish them. Could it be that these people have the Sentinel in their pocket? Or is it that the paper feels negative and untruthful letters and stories about our town will help sell more papers?
We don’t know the answers to these questions but hope to find out. What can be done to change this, maybe if hundreds of people flood the mail room at the Sentinel with letters asking them why they do this to our town? Maybe if all or most our residents boycott the paper this will help, After all you can get all the news from other more credible papers or for free on line.
What do you think? Do you have any suggestions?

I have noticed this problem myself, Many times I have read letters to the editor that were full of well let’s say not truthful facts. I myself have written letters with the facts proving these people’s statements to be incorrect and they never make the paper. A certain Budget committee member’s letters have made the paper often and many letters from a HDC member, Though her letters were not attacking anyone they were written to portray herself as a fine outstanding resident working for the good of the town and many of us could argue that fact.
I don’t think we could talk enough residents into not buying the sentinel to make a difference but maybe a ton of letters flooding their mail room may do something.
Im still upset with the story that Palermo wrote about our students a few years ago. It was a very negative story made our children look bad. My 2 children have gone to winchester school for years and are both on the honor roll, Granted both my husband and myself are involved with their education and work with them almost every night on their homework and make sure they do what they are supposed to do, We know its our job to work with the school and teachers to educate our kids not just let the school do it by itself.
It doesnt matter where you live on the type of education your kids get it matters on parent involvement.
I totally agree The sentinel is practicng the worse kind of journalism and makes one wonder who has who in whose pocket I am noticing that only certain people with an agenda seem to get published on the editorial page I also notice one or two of their reporters only seem to tell one side of the story lately I have been amazed that for years they have let certain people attack each other going back and forth for months with name calling and finger pointing and they had no problem printing these letters Now all of sudden they are protecting a certain group of people who have no integrity and do not mind not being honest and they will not print rebuttals on some of the lies being spread I for one intend to take my arguments to the Manchester Union and Brattleboro Reformer they do not seem to have a problem printing letters that are contrary to a certain group of people in Ashuelot and Winchester
