We would like to see more community events like the Pickle fest, something that brings our neighbors together to visit and our kids to play together. Maybe something like outdoor movie nights in the summer or Pot-luck cookouts. adult softball games, We think these are some of the things people like about living in small New England towns
Fund raising for these community events is always a challange, We are always trying to come up with ways to raise money and give the people a fun time while doing it, Dances at the VFW seems to work well, we are really hoping that our Duck race down the Ashuelot river becomes a succesfull and fun event for community members. Imagine friends and neighbors visiting and socializing on our beautifull historic covered bridge waiting for the Ducks to reach the finish line, We would like to have a watermellon social at the same time or time it with the Sheridan house's own Ice cream social to make it a better community event. Maybe a river clean up at the same time?.
If people in town have ideas that they think will help us with fundraising for Santa's Visit to Ashuelot, Please leave us a comment
The Winchester School Board's second annual Winchester Graduating Senior Night event will be held on Thursday, May 20 at 6:00 p.m. in the Winchester School Gymnasium. The purpose of the event is to honor the accomplishments and endeavors of the graduates of the Keene High School Class of 2010 who reside in Winchester. It gives parents a more intimate setting to celebrate their children, but also aims to provide more financial assistance to graduates. Some community organizations give scholarships via Keene High, but this event is pulling even greater sponsorship from town businesses and organizations. The public is welcome to attend and a refreshment social will take place after the event, hosted by the Arlington Grange. If you represent a business or organization that wants to participate with a scholarship or door prize for graduates and you have not been contacted by the committee yet, please contact committee member Christy Frazier staff@infinite-energy.com
I just came back from a wonderful hike up Gardner Mountain with my dogs! Just wanted to remind folks of the wonderful work that the Conservation Commission in our town is doing. We have these pearls in town that we need to support and explore! If you are looking for a short walk, long hike or anything in between for you and your family, check it out. You won't be disappointed. Wonderful wildlife sightings, nice spots to stop and check out the views. Now that spring is here, we should all get outdoors!

Baseball season is hear and soon our Children will be playing games at the ELMMCC and W.E.S..
I encourage our community to come to these games and root for the home team, Our kids are so proud to where their uniforms and play their hearts out for us. Im not sure of the W.E.S. schedule yet, but the ELMMCC Peewee and Youth teams will play home games Mon Tues Wed Thursdays at 5:30PM The concession stand will be open serving up Hotdogs hot popcorn chips and drinks. so come on and enjoy Americas favorite sport. Have a snack, visit with other parents and neighbors and have a relaxing evening, To me this is what small town America is all about
One way to help our community is by helping our children, the younger the better. With this Idea we believe it is really important to support the Winchester Learning Centers 10th annual Walk-a-thon. Teams are still needed and they are offering a great first prize, Dinner for 30 at the Olive Garden. Supporting a cause like this has many rewards for our community and Family's. One of my Children was fortunate to attend this Center (school) and he has done very well at W.E.S. and I believe it was partly due to the learning centers work. Winchester & Ashuelot news is challenging other Individuals, Boards and Organizations to enter a team and Let the best team win, In this case its our kids who will win overall. We will be there!

TAMPA, FL -- 12-year-old Zach Bonner is taking a small setback in his cross-country outreach in stride. The junior philanthropist had planned to leave Tampa Tuesday on a 2,478 mile trip to raise money for homeless youth.
Zach had to delay his trip because of mechanical problems with the RV his famly plans to ride in. Zach's mother said Wednesday, "We're ready to go now," with plans to leave mid-afternoon.
Zach is planning stops in several big cities including Talahassee and Dallas where he will meet with homeless youth, lawmakers and charitable groups.
"You are never too young to make a difference," Zach said.
You can track Zach and make sure he walks every step of the 2,478 miles to Los Angeles through GPS and donate money to his cause. Simply visit the following website:

We know the story above about Zach Bonner Is not about Winchester/Ashuelot, But with such a young man doing such a great thing, we felt we had to post it. Thank you Anonymous 4/12 9:03 am

The Winchester School Board will hold its second annual Winchester Graduating Seniors Night on May 20, 2010, to celebrate members of the Keene High School Class of 2010 who reside in Winchester. The event was begun with a many-fold purpose, including: It gives parents a more intimate setting to celebrate the achievements and endeavors of their child. It gives students a chance to get together with their Winchester friends. It gives the School Board the opportunity to not only help award additional scholarship money (beyond what is currently given via Keene High) but to also present other academic and non-academic awards to students. It gives the Winchester community a place to gather to recognize the town's graduating seniors. And, it gives Winchester businesses and organizations an added opportunity to be more directly involved in scholarship giving to the town's graduates.
Many town organizations will be presenting scholarships or announcement of applicants (if their club presents already at Keene High School). There will be a dozen or so fantastic door prizes for attending graduates to win, thanks to donations from community businesses. The Arlington Grange will host refreshments after the event. The Winchester Community Band will provide music for our entertainment. The graduates former teachers, Stephanie Tommila and Bambi Truesdell, will be guest speakers. And, Henry Parkhurst will once again emcee.
Because you either know one of the graduates or are involved with community organizations or might have a general interest in attending the event, we are sending you the attached community invitation. We hope that you will forward it to other interested parties. (If you are a parent, you and your child should receive today the personal student invitation to the event.)
Hope to see you there!
